Having a clog in a drain in your home or your sewer may mean calling in the professionals. Or, you can rent some tools yourself! At Tri-Rent-All, we offer hand snake and sewer snake rentals to help you fix a clog. If you have never rented one before, there are some things you need to know. What are some things to be aware of when renting a hand snake or sewer snake?
What Size is Best For My Clog?
When renting a hand or sewer snake, look for one with a cable diameter of a minimum of 5/8” to 7/8”. If you rent one smaller than that, it might not be strong enough to cut through the drain stoppage. You also want to get one that has about 75 to 100 feet of cable. A cable shorter than that may not be able to reach the clog.
Make Sure You Measure
Be sure to measure the distance from the street to your clean-out so you are able to figure out what length of cable you need to use. If it is farther than 100 feet, you might need to rent something with a little more length to get the job done. Ask your rental experts, and they can help you choose the right one.
Ask Questions to Your Rental Expert
Before you take home your rental, ask the rental experts for advice. You may need help learning how the snake works and if there are any safety features. There are various kinds of sewer and drain snakes, and all models have different elements to them. Be sure to ask about the proper gloves to wear. Usually, it would be leather, but they may have another type they recommend to use.
When You Get Home
Once you get home with your drain or sewer snake rental, be sure to look over any instructions and safety features once again before you use it. The more familiar you get with how it works, the better you will be able to put it to use. The rental might come with different heads to use on the cable. Having various heads is great if there are things you need to cut through in the sewer.
