An outdoor deck is a great addition to make to your home. Not only do they look great, but they can also help you spend more time outside at the same time! Depending on how many DIY projects you have done before, as well as your current tools and budget, you may want to buy or rent these tools. If you have most of them on hand already, then buying the last few most likely won’t be a big deal. If you don’t already have some of these tools, buying them all at once could be really expensive. Of course, you are already saving money by doing the project yourself, but renting the tools, or doing a combination of renting and buying can save you a lot more money up front.
Power Drill
A power drill is very important for this project, it will help you bore pilot holes into the wood, and drive screws. A drill bit set will also be useful, and you can use your power tools to tighten or loosen any screws that may come loose while the deck is in use. A nail gun will be needed as well so that you can fix items together quickly without having to place each one by hand. If you plan on using screws instead of nails then a screwdriver set will likely come in handy too.
Various Sanders
If you plan on creating any decorative effects with your deck then invest in a sander, orbital finishing sander, belt sander, and/or paint sprayer. Make sure that you have a good supply of sandpaper. It’s not just for sanding down wooden surfaces; many types are also used with other materials such as metal and plastic.
Circular Saw or Table Saw
The circular saw is used to cut the wood to length before assembly, and it may be necessary to use the jigsaw or reciprocating saw if you have joists that are not straight. If the deck design includes joists that attach to end walls by cutting through the rim joist at an angle. Otherwise, a circular saw and jigsaw could conceivably do all of the cuts necessary for construction of your deck.
